I thank my Grandparents, parents and ancestors for speaking Irish to me from birth. It is truly a gift that I can speak and teach this beautiful language . Today, I remain proud knowing that I can speak my language.
The Irish language can connect us back to our identity. At the moment I will be teaching conversational Irish to two generations in two continents, how cool is that.
Every generation that dies you will not hear their stories anymore. When we lose a generation of speakers we loose different ways of understanding the world, different ways of understanding ourselves, the loss of heritage and different ways of being a human.
In the Gaeltacht regions the Irish language is the glue that binds together the community that reflects that regions ancient wisdom. It’s in our words, phrases, stories, songs and manner of ways of speaking that is the life of that community. We must keep speaking and fully immerse the Irish language into our communities.
